This is my first time - so be easy on me.

Very nice! I really like the typography. I hope it´s not beginners luck that we are seeing here hehe.

inman

30463 / 365 = 83.46027397260274 years

12 * .46027 = 5.52324 months

2004 - 83 = 1921

3.5 - 5.5 (March and a half minus 5 and a half months) = -2

What happened in the November 1920?

nuance9

Vili: Thanks!

inman: Wow. That was a lot more math than I did. What ever it was that happened, it is now old.

inman

If you’ve got nothing then this seems appropriate enough.

nuance9

Interesting link.

I didn’t have a specific person in mind, just a general feel.

Everybody can probably fill the chair with at least one person from their life, whether the numbers add up or not.

Inman: BTW, I ended up here because of “Photoshop: Secrets of the Pros”. The book has actually turned out to be quite a treasure chest for a noob like me.

thadwiddle

nov 1920 - first time women could vote in the presidential election (US)

inVZbl

Image is kinda nice, the chair and darkness around it works well with the highlights on the chair.

The perspective of the floor seems abit off, but maybe thats because im looking at the screen upside down…

nuance9

Looking at it upside down… hmmm.

Anyhow, the old shag carpet is in the original photo so any strange persepective there must be an optical illusion. The “cracked” texture though probably should have been tweaked a bit to better correspond to the angle of the floor. That is probably the perspective issue. My fault.

BTW - how were you typing while looking at the screen upside down?

inman

Probably just easier to turn the keyboard upside down too rather than turning yourself right-side-up.

Think of all the effort it took to get upside down in the first place…

inVZbl

Yeah not sure what it is, maybe the position of the text is throwing me off…

Or it might be the cracked texture… who knows…

Is the chair a 3d image or is it real? cant tell, but love the more i look at the light on it and in the image, the better it gets…

Villi

nuanec9 I´m really busy with work right now but I´ll try to post in the next couple of days.

nuance9

Villi:

Please don’t worry about it. Post when you can, and I hope all goes well with your work.

commudesmax

thumbs up to nuance9. It is a really nice image that you created. please accept my little bow^_^ I do agreed with your comment of the “cracked”. May be it will be even nicer if the cracked was not interfere with the chair.

And Inman, Lincoln asked me a question which was “how does he find the time to waste on shit ilke that with all the other shit he does” would you like to give an answer to Lincoln?

Lincoln

i was talking about your calculations.

Lincoln

and all the other stuff you do

nuance9

>May be it will be even nicer if the cracked was not interfere >with the chair.

Yeah that is pretty lame.

inman

Let’s see, begin with only getting 4-6 hours of sleep a night, then keep all friends at least 400 miles away from you at all times. Find a girl that shares a mutual faith in your relationship and keeps just as busy. Have an almost desperate need for others to respect you even if they don’t like you or agree with your opinions. Neglect house work. Buy new clothes when the ones you’re wearing get too dirty (because laundry counts as house work). Be sure to buy two pairs of everything because your short stature makes it difficult to find clothes that fit in this overly obese American society. Besides, you never have time to shop anyways. Never be satisfied with anything you or your peers do. Code yourself into a daze. Then code yourself back out. While others are sleeping reread anything you didn’t understand the first two times. Listen to jittery, frantic or nervous electronic music. Ignore your bladder. IM infrequently (this is key). Convince yourself that you don’t like people even though it seems everything you do is just a desperate attempt to communicate. Take time to answer frivolous questions like this honestly, it helps to get a better understanding of what you’ve become.

Oh and drink lots of orange juice so as not to get sick. Certainly can’t afford the time that would waste.

Of course this behavior could be considered sick so obviously the OJ isn’t working.

RevDrLuv

Wow, deep in the mind of Inman… um… how do we get out now?

bharper

what a glimpse we jost got. i think i can identify with some of that sentiment.

tacosaurus

Inman is officially in my thoughtank™.

Villi

More empty chairs. where is everyone?

17 years ago, March 20, 2004
Lincoln

who’s that hiding in the box seats? creepy

inman

Why it’s your old friend, John Wilkes Booth!

tacosaurus

you see, I instantly thought the same thing as inman did when I read lincoln’s last comment. I just didn’t type it because I was lazy.

tacosaurus

hey AIM conspirators, do you have remote viewers watching me or something?

nuance9

Villi:

Nice execution.

I will try to reply in the next couple days.

nuance9

Things got kind of dirtied up this time around.

Villi

I think the Rolling Stones might disagree with you on that one. btw me likes!

mort

Beautiful image! I love the colours, the perspective, the texture. Not 100% gone on the type but that’s just personal taste.

nuance9

Mort:

Thanks for the comment.

Yeah, I wasn’t really 100% satisfied with the type work either. I wanted to keep the font that I used on the original image for some continuity - but I never really was too happy with it - and finally just got frustrated and posted it.

nuance9

The more I look at the image, I’m kind of happy with the way the eye in the middle of the rose turned out.

I wanted to carry on Villi’s “creepy” people watching feel from the last image. The scale feels about right, at least on my monitor, as though the image is watching me.

bharper

I’ll be honest - I don’t really like it at all. It just looks like a generic sepiatoned montage that you might see in a frame at the drugstore or wallmart. The color and theme are way played out. It’s mostly just boring.

nuance9

Ouch.

Well maybe I can apply to Wal-Mart’s graphic’s department? ;)

RevDrLuv

Here, this may help you get started. WALMART

(jk)

inman

Ouch indeed. Somebody got up on the wrong side of the bed today. Didn’t mother ever tell you, “If you don’t have anything nice to say…”

Meh, whatever, who am I kidding? You’re here for the critique right?

bharper

I hold my self back all the time. But, this place is getting bland. No one rips the artwork apart. And I’ve been watching so much american idol. simon cowell has seeped into my blood.

excuses aside, this type of image is just too cliche for me to enjoy.

am i wrong?

feel free to rip any of my pieces apart. that would be cool.

nuance9

bharper:

Really, it’s fine - I’m a glutton for punishment.

Honestly, as long as you are at least somewhat specific it is cool. “It sucks” doesn’t give me much direction for growth, but “it’s too cliche” is fine.

Like I said earlier, I’m a noob in these here parts - so school me good!!!! ; )

Villi

I love old sea stories!

Tangent! Nice work Villi. One thing, I don’t think they had cameras in 1647—even in Iceland. ;D

nuance9

>One thing, I don’t think they had cameras in 1647—even in >Iceland. ;D

Oh yeah? Well how did Villi get those pictures then?

; )

Oh, I forgot to mention: Very nice work Villi!

mort

ooh, nice!

Villi

Come on guys dont´t you think I know they did´nt have cameras way back then. The pictures are pencil drawings done by the ships doctor. how´s that for a save ;)

RevDrLuv

Damn he is tight with those renderings.

Villi

I know, he went on to become one of Icelands most famous painters. Damn fine artist!

nuance9

Space is old.

Of course, I suppose empty space is older. Oh well.

Villi

this image kinda looks like you were in a hurry to get it done. I think you could perhaps done a better job if you would have given yourself some more time. Am I right?

nuance9

Probably equal parts a quick job, lack of sleep, and that I am still trying to get the hang of this.

Please critique away. As I mentioned earlier in the thread, I came here to improve. So please tell me you thoughts, specifically if they include suggestions for improvement.

RevDrLuv

Not enough contrast. Everything is within a narrow tonal range so there is no real focal point and none of the elements stand out. Because of this the image fails to draw any visual interest.

What I do like about this logue is how you two are really filling up the composition and how each image has a color theme. Maybe just because it is a change from the norm, but I like it.

nuance9

Dr. Luv:

Thannks for the comment. You are right. Without a focal point, it was kind of like a verbal comment with no point.

Villi

maybe it´s time to move away from the sea and the stars. This is probably the first DSNLG that contains sperm, an egg, some old dude and a teddy bear.

17 years ago, March 28, 2004
nuance9

Villi:

I like the concept.

I promise my next image won’t be some hair-brained post in the middle of the night this time!!

inman

Sorry Villi.. Sperm and egg have been done. But with an old dude and a teddy bear? That’s a new take on it an old idea ;D

bearskinrug

This is some nice looking stuff gents. I especially liked image 4…

nuance9

Villi:

It has been fun. Thanks alot for breaking me into designologue!!!!

Well. I guess I will have to wait and see what others think. I swear, as soon as I upload these images my thinking changes from “hey that’s pretty good” to, “I don’t know, it kind of sucks”.
