Designologue
comeon ppl… y vote and dont leave any feedback… i wanna know where i went wrong… please god tell me what i did wrong.
(umm okay then)
you didn’t do nothin wrong…
its a great start.
kewl… i was just bored at work and waiting for a reply… cant wait to see your response…
i know.. i cant waite either.. i just gotta work it out..
everyone is doing such great work these days.. i gotta throw something nice up..
that is really fucking cool…
whatup with ‘charcoal’ in the corner B? looks out of place. it takes a great image and turns it into a festering bowl of dog snot. i gave it a 4 anyway.
I did an art project on black paper using an exacto knife to expose the white underneath. It looked a lot like the first picture. Very cool, inVSbl.
Love the pic bharper… the texture and shapes came out well with the charcoal. I like it that is more experimental that it is not trying to be just image drawn like mine. Im going to go down that route as well with this.
Yeah wasnt to sure why you put the charcoal in the bottom corner, didnt really need it.
good job none the less.
Here is the image without the “Charcoal” signature.
Inman, if you wanna swap that out with the one that’s up there, it would be fine by me.
Otherwise, I’ll just have to remember to ignore that little instinct that tries to add a “finishing touch” to my piece right before I upload it.
P.S. No charcoal was used in the making of this image.
while the ink to charcoal thingy was a nice tip, I would have loved to see more of the forms picked up from the 1st to the 2nd. But then, I ‘m a newbie with no sparing partners. Any takers?
Nice profile technique, none the less….
lostinbrooklyn:
your last post has me lost in boston. wtf are you talking about?
edit////
lostinbrooklyn: i just re read your post. it makes sense now. i really didn’t do a good job of moving from image 1 to image 2. honestly, i wasn’t crazy about #1 so i sorta just bullied my way to #2.
did the text in the left need to be there?
no. it didn’t
where you @ inVZbl?
DUDE!
This is starting to look like stills from an animated short film. Very cool!
yay!
i like the forms.. i think some of the line edges are a bit harsh on the eyes.. the contrast is too high at some places..
but im happy to be back in the game
I orginally did a charcoal drawing earlier which i scanned, but then the idea hit me with i saw the lil ducky’s so i used scan as the texture for the water…
This is a truly sexy designlogue — so so glad that it got moving agin. And this last image…wow. Everything’s so damn abstract, but such a nice sense of implied space.
Keep it up.
I like the soft snowy night feel… reminds me of back east…
Uh oh… is someone homesick???
man i love this shite… nice reply… hopefully i’ll come back with something sooner than what it took with the last one.
DAMN.. i love it.
Is that subtle smudge in the sky intentional? It kinda looks like a moon! And yea … it is refreshing to see a more abstract DNLG! You guys are quacked!
Quack Quack!
The little smudge was the result of me making a white moon and then thinking it was way to literal and erasing it.
It wasn’t untill later that I realized that I hadn’t completely erased it and so, it was a subtle accident.
I loved the composition…Nice! bharper, u should make a t-shirt with this image^_^
Man that is awesome! I love what you did with the cloud looking thing! You turned a tranquil scene into a disaster, BRILLIANT!
I hear fireworks!
HOT!
i wasn’t really feeling this DSNLG until the last two images. i really like it now, and can’t wait to see what comes next. great job!
just out of curiosity, what does it say in black letters in that last image? explore?
so so pretty! It’s a pretty charcoal dream
ahaha… you shall never know… it will be a secret for all ages
explode?
nope ;P
man not too sure about this one… the textured / charcoal feel that were brought from the other images is gone.
It mainly looks like you went to town with metalic filters. I dont mind the little leaves / flowers spurting, but the main stems look off.
ahh well, whats every1 else think?
Well, I will admit it was a little rushed. My poor cat was stuck in our roof with the fire department knocking holes in our house while I made this image. I was a little excited to say the least.
But, none the less, I think the work is OK.
As far as a “metalic filter” I have NO clue what that is.
I used my index finger and just pushed the charcoal around the paper.
I think this image is visually tasty. But I do feel the charcoal feel has faded.
you should put poor kitty in the last images, since s/he been through so much^_
Yes image 6 did look too metalic, but still looked great. Image 7 I love the bear but thr flowers and the paper its self I’m not totally feeling.
hahaha, it is a big bear Cat…. hahaha
Is this a revenge piece? I feel like you just threw away all the things we had built up over the last 5 images.
Hmmmm….
Nice bear cat tho!
I don’t think he threw it away. Unless I am mistaken, it seems that inVZbl saw branches in the shapes of your last piece and was playing off that idea.
It is a departure from the metallic treatments of before, but I am kind of happy for that.
I don’t get this Metalic perception of my last one.
It’s not metalic. It’s smudged charcoal.
I see the connection between my vines and his but mine are messy and charcoaly while his are almost like vectors…
whatever
b — it looks metallic NOT because of the background ambiguous gradient smudging, but because of the little shiny pointed star things…and the hard edged branges — even more specifically the general harsh contrasts of the gradients throughout all of the branch elements.
and because of all those electric guitars.
I will say this about img #7: the floral elements definitely don’t mesh stylistically — especially the really really small one in the upper left corner. The contrast of these elements with the o-so-nice-bear-cat really make those flowers feel like stuck-on vector art. And I’m not feeling the tiled white-on-white flowers on the “paper” either.
I still love this DSNLG though — but I feel that images 2 - 5 have been the strongest thus far.
I agree with Creighton about the flowers on this image. They are too crisp of line. Had they been more “charcoal-y” looking this piece would be a lot stronger.
If image 6 is not metallic B, then it looks like a thorny bush after an ice storm.
I dont know about this one, the last one through me off abit i guess, but i felt like adding in the vector to the charcoal feeling, as i thought the last set of flowers looked vector, i just made it more bold.
The top left hand one does look like shite now that i look at it, but i think the other ones mix up nicely. I was considering making them as a charcoal texture, but it would have looked worse i believe, as it would have seemed like it was trying abit too hard.
I agree with creighton that 2 and 5 are probably the best of the lot. My start off was shitty as it was too obvious and not really a concept behind it.
From images 2 to 5 look good as someone said before it looks like a storyboard unfolding for some twisted movie plot. I think the last 2 have gone off on a tagent, but thats a discussion for ya.
Well, dude. I think we blew it.
I’m not real happy with the way this worked out. We had a good thing going. And, now we have cats that neither of us drew.
But, we had brief moments of magic, so that was cool!
Doesnt matter, discussions never go the way people expect all the time… i think we did okay. I like what u did with the last one, nice work.
I think theme that i started all together was way to broad, i should have came up with a concept ratther just a medium.
I guess its always a learning experience, but the images we came up with were pretty good, but we lost it in some areas.
Actually, I think this last image is quite nice and even ends the DSNLG well. It certainly draws from the simplicity of the first image and with it being in red, it really looks great.
Rather than start off with black charcoal on white paper, i thought it would be better to begin with something a little different….
